Practical Nursing Graduate
Develop therapeutic communication and collaborative skills to build trust with patients and the healthcare team.
Perform full and focused assessments to gather critical data, identify needs, and guide patient care.
Learn sterile technique to assess wounds, perform dressing changes, and promote healing.
Practice safe preparation and administration of oral, topical, and injected medications.
Practice urinary catheter insertion and care to prevent complications and ensure patient comfort.
Gain experience with supporting IV therapy with insertion, care, and monitoring of peripheral IV lines.
Monitor patient health conditions and deliver care in clinics, hospitals, home settings, or long-term care under supervision of RN or provider.

Practical Nurses work in a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, home health, and hospice. Working under the direction of a registered nurse or provider, licensed practical nurses perform patient assessments, administer medications, perform sterile and non-sterile procedures, and assist patients with their personal hygiene, mobility, and nutritional and elimination needs.
The Practical Nursing program provides essential nursing skills through classroom instruction, lab simulations, and clinical practice. Graduates are well prepared to take the NCLEX-PN exam and work as a Licensed Practical Nurse, with the option to pursue further education toward becoming a Registered Nurse.

Program Outcomes
Madison is the Practical Nursing program manager. She brings a diverse experience in healthcare, including education, infection prevention, long-term care, home health/hospice, obstetrical, and medical/surgical. She received her nursing education at Weber State University with a B.S. in Nursing and a Master of Nursing Education at Western Governors University. Education and learning are a passion, and she loves sharing knowledge with students.
