Face masks. Social distancing. Zoom meetings. Back in January, who knew of the changes we would experience in the coming months?
This may be our “new normal,” but in terms of student support, not much has changed at the college. Our donors still care about our students and continue to give, even when the institution closed in April.
Our employer partners donated to initiatives to encourage people to consider careers that will help Weber County’s economy remain strong, even as they struggled to cope with the ups and downs of the market. They know a technical education will pay dividends far into the future.
One donor was concerned about the well-being of students, so he and his wife set up a special emergency fund to ensure no one goes without during these difficult times. As one barbering student noted, “Our shop was closed for a little over a month due to COVID, so being able to pay for school and bills has been pretty hard lately.” Our donors understand students’ basic needs must be met so they can concentrate on their studies.
When the economy goes down, more students go back to school. While the college’s tuition is inexpensive, some people still need help. Our donors generously step in to ensure scholarships are available.
