Automotive Service Technology program is based on the Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation (ASE) standards and prepares students to take four ASE certification exams and the G1-General Technician for Maintenance and Light Repair certification exam. The program also prepares students to take the Vehicle Emissions Testing exam. In the state-of-the-art equipped lab, students practice and demonstrate competencies such as diagnosing and repairing engines, brakes, suspensions and electronic systems as they study to become an automotive technician.
Program Objectives
To successfully complete the program, students must demonstrate competency in specific skills and verify their knowledge of industry-standard practices. Program objectives include the following skills and topics:
 
         Eric Rassi started his training at an early age in his high school automotive program and then went on to graduate from College of Marin in Automotive Technology. He has 18 Years hands-on experience with various dealerships and independent shops, and has been instructing for the last 6 years. Eric is ASE L1 and L3 certified, and has been master certified since 1997.

         John has 12 years of industry experience as a technician and 4 years of experience as an instructor. John holds a Master ASE technician certification as well as an EPA section 609.

         Student Support Specialists are professionally trained and available for all students at the college. They are available to assist students who have questions regarding their program, progress and attendance, and program changes. The specialist can assist students with campus and program policies or procedures, student rights, as well as the policy and processes involved in student complaints. The student support specialist staff is also available to discuss personal/family matters, address emergency situations, and provide referrals to college and community services.

If available, you can jump start your automotive technical education with approved high school automotive classes and transfer the credit to OTECH. After you’ve earned your certificate, you may choose to apply that credit toward an A.S. or B.S. degree in automotive technology at Weber State University.
In addition to the classes in the Automotive Service Technology certificate outline, OTECH also provides the opportunity to expand your automotive skills even further by enrolling in the Vehicle Emissions Fundamentals course. Contact Admissions for more details.
