The role of a CNC Machinist Technician is to operate Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) Machines to fabricate various parts under the supervision of a Machinist. As a critical member of the team, you’ll load parts into CNC machines, operate machines safely and accurately to perform a variety of functions. With your CNC Machinist Technician certificate, you can go on to complete the Machinist program while working as an intern or apprentice in the manufacturing industry.
The CNC Machinist Technician program will introduce the concepts of basic machining using CNC Machines. Topics include blueprint reading, preventative maintenance, basic precision measuring equipment, basic documentation, basics of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and basic operation of CNC Lathes and Mills.
The essential role of a Machinist technician is to operate Computer Numerical Control machines to fabricate parts under the supervision of a machinist. The technician loads parts in the machine and cycles machine safely and accurately to perform a variety of functions. Most go on to earn machinist certificates at technical colleges while working as interns, or apprentices in manufacturing to gain practical experience as they move up to a machinist level.
Program Objectives
Bret is our Machinist Coordinator for the Machinist Program, he has 5 years of industry-related experience and has been an instructor at the college since 1997. He holds a B.A. in education and has an Associate of Applied Science degree in Machine Tool Technology/CNC. Bret also holds a U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeships & Training Machinist Certificate. He is a Certified Metalcutting (CMP) professional from Kennametal. Bret would enjoy the opportunity to discuss the Machining career with you.

He has over 9 years industry-related experience, holds certificates in Machining from OTECH, as well as being a certified metal-cutting professional (CMP) through Kennametal. Bryce also holds a U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeships & Training Machinist Certificate. Bryce is passionate about machining and excited to be teaching. Location: Manufacturing Tech 100JStudent Support Specialists are professionally trained and available for all students at the college. They are available to assist students who have questions regarding their program, progress and attendance, and program changes. The specialist can assist students with campus and program policies or procedures, student rights, as well as the policy and processes involved in student complaints.
