Disability Services (ADA)

Ogden-Weber Technical College is inclusive campus dedicated to embracing, celebrating, and valuing every member of our community. The College seeks to create an environment that will provide full access to persons with disabilities to all college services, programs, facilities, campuses, buildings, websites, applications, and technological resources. College faculty and staff shall work cooperatively with qualified students who receive accommodations in order to provide access to the programs, services, and activities of the college, as required by law.

PLAN AHEAD — It is the responsibility of students with disabilities to begin the ADA accommodation process by submitting an ADA application with Disability Services. Reasonable prior notice may be necessary in order to evaluate requests and to implement them, when appropriate. ADA accommodations are not retroactive. Therefore, students requiring accommodation services are advised to notify Disability Services as early as possible to ensure that there is sufficient time to review their requests. Some student accommodations, such as interpreters, may take time to arrange.

If you have any questions or need clarification of the accommodation process, contact the ADA Coordinator at 801-627-8321 or ada@otech.edu.

To schedule an ASL interpreter please contact Disability Services office 801-627-8321 or ada@otech.edu.

Classroom Considerations

Appropriate Seating
Seating should be available to meet the needs of students with disabilities. There must be space to maneuver wheelchairs through the classroom, lab areas and computer rooms.

Student Participation
When asking for student participation, make sure that all students have a way to participate and provide their input.

Deaf and/or Low Vision Student
For students utilizing an interpreter, there should be enough lighting for the student to see the interpreter during a slide show, a video, or other presentation.

For students utilizing an interpreter additional time to read questions and time to provide a response should be given.

Visiting Employers
Ensure travel is accessible, the event accessible, and the activity expected from the students accessible. Make sure there is “room for” the interpreter during these events and alert the interpreter or students with mobility issues to the event and determine how they will be able to participate.

Textbook Considerations

For students who need audio books or textbooks in an alternative format (i.e. PDF) for screen reader use, an alternative format of the textbook will need to be obtained from the publisher.

The College Store can help to ensure that the textbooks used in your program can be provided in an alternative format.

The ADA Coordinator will work with the publisher to provide student access to the textbook in an alternative format.
