OTECH provides and helps connects students with resources, support, and services to address mental health and wellness needs. Student Support Specialists

Student Support Specialists are professionally trained and available for all students at the college. They provide assistance to students with:

Blomquist Hale

OTECH students can access FREE counseling services through Blomquist Hale. These services are confidential and available for you (as a student) and your eligible dependents. To set up an appointment, call 801-262-9619 and tell them you’re an OTECH student. In-person and virtual appointments are available.

FREE peer-to-peer coaching for students is now available through Trula! Whether you’re looking for help with goal setting, feeling stressed, or want to make changes in your life, coaching can help you.

SafeUT

SafeUT gives FREE access to licensed counselors who provided 24/7 crisis intervention and emotional support:

  • Depression/anxiety
  • Suicide prevention
  • Loss/grief
  • Self-harm
  • Any life challenge

LiveSafe

The LiveSafe app provides students and employees with a direct connection to Campus Security so they can easily communicate all their safety needs.
Through the app, students can:

  • Report tips (send texts/photos to security)
  • Share their location to security in an emergency
  • Talk with campus security
  • Access emergency procedures for campus


Suicide Prevention

If you or someone you know is experiencing thoughts of suicide, there is help. You can reach out on behalf of yourself, or another student if you are concerned for their safety.

Students can access one of the college’s trained student support specialists by calling 801-627-8300 or by visiting the reception desk in the Student Services Building or reach out to one of the following resources:

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call, text, or chat 988 to be connected to trained counselors. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary.   • Avoiding classes/activities/events
  • Changing your behavior in significant and negative ways
  • Struggling to manage your personal hygiene or appearance for lack of energy or motivation
  • Having a difficult time managing your emotions

Things you can try on your own

  • Take care of your basic needs:
  • Eat healthy meals
  • Get a good amount of sleep each night (7-8 hrs)

  • Be physically active in some way each day
  • Create a routine for each day
  • Spend time outside in the sun
  • Spend time with friends/family (call, text, visit, etc.)
  • Practice mindfulness & breathing exercises
  • Sign out of social media for short periods of time

  • Relying on existing relationships to address your mental health needs instead of professional help

  • Thoughts of helplessness or hopelessness

  • Engaging in self-harming behaviors (cutting, burning, bruising)

  • Mindfulness, grounding exercises, or breathing exercises
  • Give yourself permission to take a break from things for a brief period of time
  • Reach out to the people in your life who support you
  • Calling your counselor or therapist if you have one
