The Drafting and Design program prepares students for entry-level employment as a Computer Aided Designer in one of the following industries: Architecture Design, Structural Design, Civil Design, Interior Design, Manufacturing Design, and Additive Manufacturing Design.
Students in the Drafting and Design program will be immersed in a project-based curriculum that may be focused on architectural drafting, mechanical drafting, and/or civil drafting. They will receive one-on-one aid from experienced instructors, review best practices, and focus on industry standards. All courses are computer use intensive and competency based. Students will develop a strong working knowledge of visual communication and its technical skills. Upon completion, students are prepared for entry-level employment and/or further continuing their education.

Imagine creating a rocket engine with over 22 million horsepower, designing Lagoon’s Rattlesnake Rapids, building the Egyptian Theater on 24th Street, or even drafting your own home. In each of these cases (and millions more across Utah), a computer-aided designer was a key part of the process. Designers work with engineers and architects to create a variety of models and drawings. Sometimes the computer-aided designer’s digital model will be used directly with high-tech equipment, like 3D printers. In other cases, the designer will prepare detailed drawings for the next phase of construction or manufacturing.
