In compliance with the Principles of Excellence for Educational Institutions Serving Service Members, Veterans, Spouses, and Other Family Members (Executive Order 13607), the Shopping Sheet is a federal financial aid consumer tool to help inform students of the financial costs associated with attending a school of their choice. This standardized form is designed to simplify cost and financial aid information.
VA Education and Training Benefits are financial assistance programs provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to help veterans, service members, and their dependents pay for education or training.
You can apply online through the VA’s website, or you can meet with OTECH’s Veterans Services Officer for assistance with completing the application.
Eligibility depends on factors such as military service, length of service, and the type of benefit being requested. Reach out to OTECH’s Veterans Services Officer if you have questions about eligibility.
The amount of funding depends on the specific benefit program, your eligibility, and your enrollment status. The Post-9/11 GI Bill, for example, may cover tuition, fees, and living expenses.
Students may use the GI Bill Comparison Tool to estimate benefits.
Students may take as many programs as their eligibility allows and they are in good standing.
It usually takes 4-6 weeks from your first attended day of class before you will receive payment from the VA for Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH), books, and supplies.
For Vocational Readiness and Employment (VR&E) Chapter 31 benefit eligibility, contact a VR & E counselor.
For apprenticeship program eligibility, contact the Utah State Approving Agency for Veteran Education.
VA sponsored students are required to keep Satisfactory Academic Performance (SAP) of 67.5%.
For Veteran’s Readiness and Employment, speak with your individual VA case worker.
Students who get overpaid must plan with the VA to repay their funding. Reach out the OTECH Veterans Services Officer for more details.
Equation: (number of credits completed ÷ number of credits attempted = academic performance)
4 credits completed ÷ 6 credits taken = 67%
7 credits completed ÷ 12 credits taken = 58%
