Beginning July 1, 2024, most OTECH students will move to a weekly course scheduling model at Ogden-Weber Technical College. This will simplify processes for students and instructors and make it easier to meet student needs.
All students on an FY24 or later program outline will move to a weekly scheduling model, with some modifications for students in programs with required attendance or operating in cohorts (Barbering, Cosmetology, Nail Technician, Nursing Assistant, Real Estate, Apprenticeships, and Practical Nursing).
In this model, all courses will begin on Mondays and end on Fridays. When you work with your instructor and/or admissions to register for your next course, you will choose whether you want to be a full-time (FT) or a part-time (PT) student.
Course length and end date will be determined by whether you are a full-time or part-time student.
The first course (or course attempt) you enroll in after July 1, 2024 will follow the weekly scheduling model. The course will begin on a Monday and your course end date will be a Friday. The total number of weeks will be determined based on the course credits and your status as a full- or part-time student.
Your instructor will work with the admissions office through this transition. There is nothing specific you need to do as a student, other than discuss your full- or part-time status and pay attention to the end date of your next course.
Reach out to your instructor, student support specialist, or the admissions office.
Students enrolled in outlines prior to FY24 will continue using daily scheduling as they have in the past. They will still need to choose either a full-time or part-time schedule, however. Students who need a temporary waiver to attend less than part time should speak with their student support specialist. Students in these outlines will also still need to clock in and out for attendance.
Students in Barbering, Cosmetology, Nail Technician, Nursing Assistant, Real Estate, Apprenticeships, and Practical Nursing will have specific scheduling requirements that may vary from the general weekly scheduling model. Speak to your instructor and/or admissions about your specific scheduling requirements.
For students on an FY24 outline or later, weeks with one day of closure due to holidays, staff training, or extenuating circumstances will be counted as a regular week in the course end date calculation. Weeks with two or more days of closure will not count toward the course end date calculation, but students will still have access to labs and instruction during open days that week. Students on a weekly schedule are not required to engage in coursework during weeks with two or more days of closure.
For students on an FY22 or FY23 outline, the end date will be based on all open days, even if those days fall in a week with closures.
Full time students in a one-credit course do not qualify to test out. All other students in the weekly scheduling model are eligible to test out once they have registered for a course.
Students may be eligible to pay for a course extension to have an additional week to complete the course. Only one course extension is allowed per course, after which students will need to pay the full tuition for another course attempt.
Each student is eligible for three total weeks of leaves of absence, which can be used in one- to three-week blocks as necessary. Students in the weekly scheduling model will be granted leave in 1-week increments. Students in attendance-required programs will be granted leave in 5-day increments.
