Weather-Related Delays and Closures

On occasion, adverse weather conditions may lead to a delayed start time or campus closure. Ogden-Weber Technical College administration considers several factors when making these decisions, including:

  • Weather reports from the National Weather Service
  • Rate of snowfall
  • Road conditions in the greater area
  • Road and parking lot conditions on campus

The college works closely with other educational partners in the area and monitors other closures when applicable but makes an independent decision based on campus conditions.

College administration will typically make decisions to delay or cancel daytime classes prior to 6 a.m. and announce these decisions via Informacast (mass text message system) and college social media channels. Our communications team works diligently to get Informacast and social media notifications out before 6:30 a.m. Decisions to cancel evening classes will typically be made and communicated by 2:30 p.m. If no information is shared on college social media, classes and college business will proceed as normal.

Occasionally, the decision to close campus must be made without advanced notice. In these cases, information will also be communicated via Informacast and posted on college social media pages.

Faculty and Staff

In the event of a delay or cancellation, faculty will communicate with students regarding revised class expectations and/or assignments. Online classes will generally continue as normal.

Some employees may be expected to report to campus even in the event of a closure. Please check with your supervisor for expectations in weather-related delays and closures.

Individual Level Decisions

Students and employees are responsible for assessing their individual circumstances when traveling to campus and should take appropriate safety precautions. If the campus is open and a student or employee is unable to attend class or work, they should communicate with their instructor/student support specialist or supervisor to make alternate arrangements.

Per the Telecommuting policy, employees must be authorized by their supervisor and vice president to work remotely. Employees who are not eligible to telecommute must use accrued leave or leave without pay in the event they are unable to work their approved schedule when the campus is open.
