Digital Design

Graphic designers create visual concepts, by hand or using computer software, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate consumers. They help to make an organization recognizable by selecting color, images, or logo designs that represent a particular idea or identity to be used in advertising and promotions.

The Digital Design Program provides a strong foundation in the diverse fields of a graphic designer. Students learn theory and experience hands-on application in the production of electronically generated media for print, television, film, websites, and mobile computing. In the coursework, students design creative collateral for companies and/or clients. Course topics include graphic design, design principles, photography, image manipulation, illustration, desktop publishing, and motion design with skills in video production, animation, motion graphics, interactive design, small business marketing, and a final portfolio. Students will gain the skills necessary for entry-level employment in creative careers and learn industry practices, graphic design, illustration, photography, motion graphics & animation, and front-end web designs. Students work with the Adobe Creative Cloud software to develop literacy and production skills.

Program Objectives

  • Use professional graphic design software.
  • Explain the creative process with employers and clients.
  • Discuss projects with a creative team to work seamlessly together to produce professional work.
  • Demonstrate skills by creating and showing a professional portfolio of work.
  • Develop the soft skills that are essential for interviewing, working with clients, and running a business.
  • Develop skills that will prepare students to work in creative skills.

“The instructors help you in the best way they can. They are understanding and kind and show an interest in what you have to say.”

“I am in Graphic and Web Design. I have a biology degree as well from a university, but I feel the instructors I have had at OTECH far exceed any expectation I had of an instructor. They have all exceeded my expectations and made my experience here amazing. I always talk about how much I have learned from them and they have made learning fun again. I also like the flexibility that OTECH offers as a career working mother.”

”I had one of the best experiences here. All my instructors believed in me when I didn’t. I’m so grateful I met them, because I couldn’t have done it without them. I’m happy I got the opportunity to study something I love. The instructors are not only your teachers, but they can be such great friends. I’m going to miss them all.”

“My favorite part of the program/college is my instructors. I love how helpful they are and how willing each has been to take time to teach me when needed. They are always prone to praise and don’t hold back when something I’ve done in my work has impressed them.”

“I love that my instructors are here for me and I can tell that they want to see their students succeed. They work hard to answer all my questions and help me understand what I am learning. I also love that I have had a chance to do an internship and help with a project around campus because it has helped me get experience needed for when I go look for a job once school is over. It has been such an amazing time going to school here.”
